The FortiGate 400F and 401F are 1U rack-mount next-generation firewalls purpose-built for campus and
distributed enterprise environments. Fortinet's NP7 and CP9 security processors push 79.5 Gbps of firewall
throughput and 9 Gbps of real threat protection, with full SSL inspection, secure SD-WAN, and inline
FortiGuard services running simultaneously, without a performance trade-off for any of them.

Comparing FortiGate models?
The 400F and 401F sit above the 200F and below the 600F in the FortiGate mid-range lineup. Browse the
full series to compare throughput, port density, and FortiGuard bundle pricing across every campus-class
FortiGate.
The FortiGate 401F includes two 480 GB SSDs for local log and event storage, while
the 400F ships with no onboard storage. All performance specifications are identical across both
models. If you plan to send logs to FortiAnalyzer or FortiCloud, the 400F is sufficient. If you want
logs retained locally on the appliance, the 401F is the right choice.
Fortinet positions the 400F series for mid-sized to large enterprises, typically
organizations supporting 300 to 500 users at a campus headquarters or a large hub branch location. The
79.5 Gbps firewall throughput and 9 Gbps threat protection give IT teams comfortable headroom to grow
without replacing hardware at the next refresh cycle.
Yes. Secure SD-WAN is built into FortiOS and runs natively on the same appliance with
no additional hardware required. WAN edge routing, application steering, and automatic failover all
run in the same FortiGate that handles your NGFW policy. A FortiGuard SD-WAN service bundle adds SLA
database updates, overlay orchestration, and FortiSASE connectivity for hybrid workforce environments.
FortiGuard services are sold in three bundles. UTP (Unified Threat Protection) covers
IPS, antivirus, web and video filtering, antispam, application control, and FortiGate Cloud Sandbox.
ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) covers IPS, advanced malware protection, and application control.
Enterprise Protection adds DLP, AI-based inline malware prevention, attack surface security, and CASB
on top of UTP. Individual services including IPS, AMP, URL and DNS filtering, and OT security can also
be licensed a la carte.
Yes. FortiGate Cloud provides zero touch deployment, configuration backup, and
reporting for a single unit or an entire fleet, with a free tier and a full subscription option that
retains one year of logs. FortiManager Cloud is available as an add-on for centralized policy
management across multiple devices. FortiAnalyzer Cloud handles logging, analytics, and compliance
reporting independently of the physical appliance.
