WatchGuard Firebox T185.
Fastest tabletop Firebox ever. 1.83 Gbps UTM. Built for heavy traffic.
The Firebox T185 is the top of the WatchGuard tabletop lineup, purpose-built for mid-market businesses,
large branch offices, and retail environments that need a compact form factor with performance that does not
back down under load. Nine total ports including four 2.5Gb interfaces, two of which are PoE+, plus an
SFP/SFP+ fiber slot, give you flexible high-speed connectivity. At 1.83 Gbps UTM throughput and 100 Branch
Office VPN tunnels, the T185 handles sites that the T145 would struggle with.
4x 1Gb Ethernet and 4x 2.5Gb Ethernet (2 of the 2.5Gb ports are 802.3at PoE+ capable to power
WatchGuard APs or other devices). 1x SFP/SFP+ (accepts 1Gb SFP or 10Gb SFP+ transceivers). 4GB of RAM.
50 EDR Core sensors included. Built-in, highly reliable integrated power supply. Kensington Lock slot
for physical security. 1 Serial port and 2 USB-A 3.0 ports.
VPN and SD-WAN
100 Branch Office VPN (site-to-site) tunnels. 100 Mobile VPN connections. Site-to-site VPN over IKEv2,
IPSec, policy and route-based tunnels, and TLS hub and spoke. Remote access over IKEv2, IPSec, L2TP, and
TLS. SD-WAN with multi-WAN failover, dynamic path selection, and jitter, loss, and latency measurement.
Active/passive and active/active high availability clustering. Unlimited VLANs.
Security Services
Stateful packet inspection, TLS decryption, and proxy firewall. Basic Security Suite includes IPS,
Gateway AV, Application Control, WebBlocker, spamBlocker, and Reputation Enabled Defense. Total Security
Suite adds APT Blocker, IntelligentAV, DNSWatch, ThreatSync (XDR), and 50 EDR Core sensors. Over 100
dashboards and reports in WatchGuard Cloud, including PCI and HIPAA compliance. 4 WSM management
licenses included.
T185 vs. T145 or the M Series?
The T185 is the top of the tabletop T Series. If you are weighing it against the T145 or considering
whether a rack-mount M Series makes more sense for your traffic load, the series comparison page has the
side-by-side numbers you need.
The T185 targets mid-market businesses, regional branch offices, and retail
environments with up to 150 users and heavy traffic loads. It is WatchGuard's fastest tabletop
Firebox, with performance validated using the NetSecOPEN standardized testing methodology, and built
for sites where the T145 would be undersized. If your primary location or largest branch is pushing
more than 75 users and fast ISP circuits, the T185 is where to look before moving to rack hardware.
The T185 delivers 1.83 Gbps UTM throughput versus 710 Mbps on the T145, 7.90 Gbps
firewall throughput versus 3.90 Gbps, and 100 Branch Office VPN tunnels versus 25. It also provides
four 2.5Gb ports (versus one on the T145) and two of those ports are PoE+ capable. The T185 includes
50 EDR Core sensors versus 20, and 4 WSM management licenses. The T185 does not have a wireless radio,
where the T145-W does.
Two of the 2.5Gb ports on the T185 are 802.3at PoE+ compliant at 2.5Gbps link speeds,
a feature unique to the T185 in the tabletop lineup. Each port provides enough power to run a
WatchGuard AP or other small PoE-powered device. This removes the need for a separate PoE injector at
sites where you want a WatchGuard AP co-located with the firewall and connected at full 2.5Gb speed.
No. The T185 is wired only. For integrated wireless at the same site, pair the T185
with WatchGuard AP hardware, such as the AP330 or AP432, managed through the same WatchGuard Cloud
account as your Firebox. The two PoE+ ports on the T185 can power a WatchGuard AP directly from the
firewall at 2.5Gb link speeds, keeping your wiring clean and your cabling count low.
WatchGuard Cloud provides centralized configuration, monitoring, and reporting for
the T185 alongside any other Firebox or WatchGuard AP in your account, with over 100 pre-built
dashboards and reports including PCI and HIPAA compliance views. Zero-touch deployment lets you
configure the T185 in Cloud before shipping it to a branch office, so it comes online automatically
when plugged in without requiring a local IT person on site. The T185 includes 4 WSM management
licenses for on-premises management as well.
Not sure if the T185 is the right size, or if an M Series makes more sense?
Tell us your user count, ISP speed, number of branch offices, and whether you need PoE for wireless. A
certified WatchGuard engineer at Firewalls.com will tell you whether the T185 handles your traffic or
whether a rack-mount M Series is the better long-term move.
